Boris "Flood"

This is an older Boris album from 2000, but I decided that this would be a good album to start a blog with. It's my favorite album out of their catalog, and although "Akuma no Uta" and "Pink" were great, I don't think they match the moodiness or, even the explosiveness of "Flood".
"Flood" is their second attempt at an album length song (the first was "Absolutego"), but this time divided up into 4 parts. First part gives away very little as to the direction of the rest of the album. It's more in line with Steve Reich cut and pasting solo guitar arpeggios. However, the next section sounds like their tribute to Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" -- quiet drums, and a moody 13 minute guitar solo by Wata -- though it's doubtful that one of the other members told her to play like her mama just died ala Clinton to Hazel.
The next part is where the guitar devestation kicks in. It starts pretty enough, with a continuation of some mesmerizing solo guitar picking before launching into some of their signature epic psych/doom. And when that heavy doom kicks in, you know it's time to pick up that air guitar you left in the corner. From there it gradually slows down even further, with the guitars drifting into the background while the foreground slowly gets drenched in reverb and feedback. By the time the final section comes, it's now only a quiet rumble. The after math of the devestation. This continues for the next 20 minutes as it slowly fades and the waves slowly drift in, washing the bodies out to sea. Yeah!
