Box of Dub

I've noticed lately that the dubstep tracks that most impress me on compilations are NOT by folks named Skream, Benga, or Burial. The case is still true with the recent Soul Jazz dubstep compilation called "Box of Dub". One of my current favorite dubstep tracks is on here by Tayo meets Acid Rockers, whoever that is. Admittedly, I haven't done any research, because he (or they) could actually be a big name in dubstep.

But back to the track, it's called "Dread Cowboy", and it nails some ultra deep (but melodic, like the best reggae tracks) bass lines, with some choppy drum programming, dub effects echoing over the top, and a reggae guitar rhythm that cuts in and out of the mix. Anyhow, it's a beautiful track, and every time I think of dubstep as mere background music, or music desperately in need of singing/rapping, I'll come across a piece of work like this that really forces me to rethink my position.

Now, you know my stance on that particular track, but how's the rest of "Box of Dub". Well, it's pretty good, and actually the other great tracks are by Skream, Burial, and Digital Mystikz. Standard guys that are usually featured on just about every dubstep compilation of any worth. But, this isn't about those guys, or the other guys on here, it's all about the mightiness of the Tayo meets Acid Rockers track known as "Dread Cowboy".
